POSITION SUMMARY:    Work involves data entry and maintenance of North Penn Water Authority’s (NPWA’s) Geographical Information System (GIS), as well as GIS hardware, software and database maintenance to ensure a high level of accuracy and functionality for system users. 

 Work is focused on data management in the GIS and end-user support.  Will support and/or manage IT projects that are GIS related and may have broad organizational impacts. 

 This is responsible technical work in support of (NPWA’s) efforts in creating and maintaining a computerized mapping system of NPWA’s Water Assets, does related work as required.

 Position reports to the IT Manager. 


  • Maintains Geographic Information System Functionality

                                          i.    Software – ESRI, etc.
                                         ii.    Database – SQL

  •  Identifies and recommends areas where GIS can be utilized within NPWA.  
  •  Provides GIS related support functions for organizational tasks and projects.
  • Provides GIS training and mentoring for the employee base and/or others as required.
  • Acquires and integrates outside data.
  • Maintains GIS Contacts List
  • Records complete documentation of system specifications and procedures, prepares and designs associated input-output forms, programming guides, user’s manuals, procedure’s manuals, and operation guides
  • Insures the long-term operation and reliability of geographic information system by verifying the proper functioning of all system features and capabilities in order to reveal and correct any deficiencies or malfunctions
  • Evaluates system instructions and procedures, recommends alternative solutions and/or improvements in geographic information processing methods, and redesign and modifies systems as required
  • Assists system users with procedures required for geographic information processing and the resolution of problems resulting from the processing of information
  • Provides direction, technical training, assistance and system support to all users of system capabilities
  • Assists and supports the development of and adherence to required standards, controls, procedures and performance measures related to information systems
  • Updates GIS infrastructure database and performs digital data revisions and updates on GIS coverages, feature classes, and graphics/symbology utilizing ESRI ArcGIS
  • Manages internal and external data acquisition, exchanges, and purchases. Handles select GNSS/GIS related software licenses and equipment purchases
  • Assists IT Manager with planning, developing, coordinating all GIS related systems to create and maintain a comprehensive GIS database.
  • Operates and maintains GPS locating systems and Trimble Locator and cross trains Distribution Staff as needed
  • Maintains a high level of proficiency in GIS software, professional practices, and techniques.
  • Work under the direction of the IT Manager to provide various CMMS system support functions to include:  End user support, internal process documentation, review internal work flows and provide the IT Manager system recommendations, and Q/A on end user input
  • Work under the direction of the IT Manager to provide various internal ArcGIS Portal system support functions
  • Additional work related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Systems or Management of Information Systems (MIS), or an equivalent training, coursework and experience, with a working knowledge of ESRI Software and Tools
  • Minimum three years of combined GIS job experience working with ESRI GIS software
  • Experience with working on, some or all, of the software programs to include ESRI Software and Professional Survey & Design Software.  Knowledge and experience in surveying, GPS, CAD applications and image processing considered a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of Plotters
  • Programming experience in Python or SQL desired.

 Successful Candidates will have the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of current methods and techniques of Geographic Information Systems processing
  • Thorough knowledge of information system, techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in the use and application of Geographic Information Systems and detailed city land databases and/or large GIS databases
  • Ability to exercise ingenuity and inventiveness in problem solving; skill in applying procedures to improve organizational productivity and efficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to others
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
  • Ability to provide production programs for specific user-friendly applications used by non-GIS staff
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports / SSRS Development a plus

  Hours: Full-Time - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday


North Penn Water Authority is looking for an able bodied individual to work for us as a Utility Worker.

This position will be working primarily outdoors and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist Utility Staff with water system maintenance and repair
  • Perform digging with shovel in order to expose water pipes
  • Clean and maintain company tools and equipment
  • Complete Mark Outs of existing water system appurtenances
  • Paint fire hydrants
  • Carry tools and equipment from company vehicles to work sites
  • Need to descend into 3 to 5 foot deep excavations and perform repairs
  • Flagging and traffic control
  • Available for after-hours call outs for emergency repairs

The qualified candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Able to lift and carry/push/pull a minimum of 75 pounds
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Good physical mobility
  • Good balance
  • Good hand to eye coordination and dexterity
  • High School Diploma or GED

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm   


Utility Worker - Systems Control Department

North Penn Water Authority is looking for an able bodied individual to work for us as a Utility Worker.

This position will be working primarily within all facilities but some outdoor work is required and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper operations of wells, booster stations and tanks.
  • Ensure all water treatment requirements and regulations are adhered too, set forth by PADEP.
  • Assist Systems Control Staff with water system maintenance and repair.
  • Provide basic electrical monitoring, testing and analysis for system operations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Complete basic plumbing projects and pipe fitting work at all stations.
  • Complete station maintenance for facilities, including mowing, landscaping and easement clearing.
  • Maintain company tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Available for after-hours call duty, for emergencies.

The qualified candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Able to lift and carry/push/pull a minimum of 75 pounds
  • Have a valid commercial driver’s license
  • Good physical mobility
  • Good balance
  • Good hand to eye coordination and dexterity
  • High School Diploma or GED 

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm  



The North Penn Water Authority in Lansdale, Pa is seeking a part-time PR Intern. The ideal candidate is someone who has a basic knowledge of public relations, is willing to learn about social media and public relations as it pertains to a municipal water authority. Water is a vital resource and the person who fills this position will learn about the water industry and the role NPWA plays in the community. In addition to obtaining hands-on experience, the person selected for this internship will be paid.

This position will be working primarily with the Administration and Public Relations Manager and Community Relations Coordinator.  

Essential Duties:    

  • Help develop a PR plan for “Drinking Water Week” which takes place during the second week of May.
  • Assist Community Relations Coordinator (CRC) with PR related duties such as drafting and editing social media posts, press releases and website updates.
  • Assist CRC with educational presentation preparation and research.
  • Assist CRC with community relations campaigns.
  • Monitor media for NPWA and water related news and events.
