Park Avenue – Ferry Road Transmission Main

Click here for a map of the Ferry Road work area. Work has been paused until final milling, which is anticipated to start on November 1, 2023. This week the contractor will be on Park Avenue for a week and a half and then will move onto Ferry Road starting on November 1. Restoration will involve the entire length of Park Avenue (northbound lane) and Ferry Road (Southbound lane) will be milled down approximately 1.5” to allow for the 1.5” of overlay paving to be applied immediately thereafter. The road will be uneven for a couple of days until the paving is completed. Hours of this operation will be between 9 am and 3 pm daily.

Weeks of October 23 – Milling on Park Avenue should be completed on Wednesday, October 25, with the overlay scheduled to be completed on Monday and Tuesday (October 30 & 31weather permitting), The contractor will then move to milling and paving the southbound lane of Ferry Road starting at Park Avenue and headed toward Swamp (Rt. 313). There will be delays on Park Avenue with flagging staff in place during the work, but the Ferry Road work will involve a full detour as both travel lanes will be closed to through traffic as both lanes of traffic will be occupied with equipment to complete this paving restoration operation.

OVERVIEW: The Park Avenue–Ferry Road Transmission Main Project is a joint effort between the North Wales Water Authority and North Penn Water Authority. Over five miles of 16-inch water main will be installed to ensure safe and clean water for use in Plumstead Township, as well as to parts of Doylestown and New Britain Townships. The project begins at the Forest Park Water Plant, continues along Park Avenue to Ferry Road, and extends to Route 313 (Swamp Road) in Plumstead Township. Upon completion of the project, a reliable water supply will be available for firefighting purposes, municipal use, drought, when needed due to failed or contaminated wells, or when any similar situation demands an alternate supply. The North Wales Water Authority (NWWA) will supervise the construction activities.

DETOURS: Park Avenue detour has been taken down and the final milling and paving will be completed utilizing flagging personnel with one lane of traffic passing at a time. Ferry Road detour will be re-activated when milling and paving commences on Ferry Road. As required by law, since all of the impacted roads are PennDOT state roads, the detour plans must direct all through traffic only to alternate PennDOT roads. Any decisions regarding local detours are under the sole authority of the local municipality. In general, the construction activities will have a linear movement with immediate area of construction (between intersections) to be CLOSED during active construction. The contractor is required to permit emergency vehicles, school buses, and local residents access at all times during construction.

Work has been paused until final milling and paving is coordinated with the contractor and Penndot, It is anticipated to begin on October 23 on Park Avenue for one week and then move onto Ferry Road starting the week of October 30. When it does resume, the entire length of Park Avenue (northbound lane) and Ferry Road (Southbound lane) will be milled down approximately 1.5” to allow for the 1.5” of overlay paving to be applied immediately thereafter.
